Healing Yoga for Back Care

An event every week that begins at 10:30 am on Tuesday, repeating until June 15, 2021

Back pain is one of the most frequent causes of activity limitation in adults today. In this program, you will be led through a pathway to a “Better Back” so that you can find benefits beyond just the physical form of movement or stretches. By bringing slow movements and bodily awareness into your asana practice and focusing on the proper breathing, this program can improve the overall health of the postural imbalance and asymmetries of the body to help alleviate back pain. These practices can also help lower stress and reduce the anxiety and depression often associated with back pain.

In this 10-week program, you will learn various adaptable asanas and breath-centric movements to support and stabilize, stretch and strengthen your spine from head to tail. Healing happens when awareness is brought to the breath and with mindful movements.

This class is for those who are able to move up and down from the floor and no prior yoga experience is needed to participate. Each week, we’ll begin either lying down or sitting on the floor, then move up to standing poses, make our way back down to the floor for supine/prone poses, and end with deep relaxation.

The following are the props needed for this class: a yoga mat, two blankets, and one pillow.

About Jyoti Shah
Jyoti is the founder of YogaSheila in Northwest Cary and has been teaching yoga for over 16 years. She is a professional yoga and meditation teacher trained under the living tradition of the Himalayan Institute and has completed her Yoga Alliance recognized RYT 500 and E-RYT 200. She is also a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, trained under the guidance of world-renowned psychologists and meditation experts Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

She follows the practice of Hatha Yoga, which helps develop every aspect of an individual: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. Her teaching encompasses classic asanas, mindful movements, breath training, meditative and energizing pranayama techniques, and the “flow of awareness” relaxation technique to access a deeper state of inner awareness leading into meditation.
