How we raise funds for our programs
Events and programs
To reach our financial goals and fund teacher stipends, we produce several fund-raising events throughout the year that require a dedicated team consisting of our director Howie, our event planner and Board of Directors member Mor Aframian, and many, many skilled volunteers, partners, advisors, and teachers. These can be smaller one-day events, like Super Soul Sunday, which combined yoga practice and live drumming to benefit Y.OG.A. for Youth; or a large all-day program like YogaFest NC, our annual fundraiser at the acclaimed McKimmon Center at North Carolina State University, which reaches 500 participants of all abilities and includes exhibitors of yoga and wellness products appropriate for our participants. We promote all our events through social media, online calendars, our community partners, sponsors, teachers, and team members. We try to produce a minimal amount of paper promotional materials to make our events more “green’ each year.
Partnerships with businesses
We partner with other organizations and businesses to raise money for their cause or services as well as ours. The intention can range from generating money for yoga teacher stipends, developing a program for a group with special needs, or building a base of funds for their community outreach operations. The monies are raised by sponsorships, donations from participants, admission fees, and percentages of sales. We have worked with Ten Thousand Villages of Raleigh, Solas Raleigh, blue lotus, The Stockroom, Lululemon, Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary, and Y.O.G.A. for Youth NC.
We have a soft fundraising campaign that enrolls private and corporate donors to support specific programs. Most of the monies raised go toward teacher stipends.
Our grant team researches and reviews grant opportunities we find online and we apply to those that align with our mission and actions. We keep the scope of our projects, and their budget, simple. For our successful application to The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, we combined our multiple locations of ongoing service to demonstrate how yoga is being offered to diverse groups of people with a broad range of ages and life conditions.
We sell the Sit Stretch Smile video and book online at Amazon and directly by request to Howie. The video and book are offered in hard copy or downloadable format, and can be purchased or rented through Amazon.
